Frockin' Fabulous

daily stylish doses of me, could it get any frockin' better?

A few days ago I wrote a post about ombre hair and how I was thinking about getting it done myself. Well I did. And tomorrow I will be making a trip back to my salon in an attempt to restore my hair to its former blonde glory. Today’s post is about my hair mishap along with a few iconic celebrity hair DON’Ts.

My Hair Woes:

I was on the fence about the colour the entire time. My sisters kept asking, “Are you going to do it?” and I didn’t know. Then when my stylist asked if I was doing highlights again I just decided to take the leap.

The process of creating the ombre effect involves both highlights and dye (I’ve never dyed my hair before) so I looked ridiculous as it was getting done. And my stylist could clearly see how worried I was about the end result because she actually decided to move me away from the mirrors until the she was finished.

In the end, I really I liked my hair.. That is until I got home. And then I had a mini panic attack about how dark it looked. My stylist did a fantastic job, it just isn’t me. Lesson learnt. If your sitting on the fence about a particular hairstyle or anything really, think it all the way through before taking the plunge and spending all that cash because not everything is quite so easily fixed.

PS. Please excuse my pyjamas, it’s been a long day

Now let’s hope these celebrities learnt their lesson too..

Juliette Lewis wore her hair braided to the 1992 Oscars. Her entire look was highly criticized.

Britney Spears sported some pretty awful hair extensions (not to mention a few interesting wigs) after shaving her head.

Snooki’s pouf. It’s just not good.

In my last post, I included a picture of Daphne Guinness and wrote about my little ‘obsession’, so I thought now I would try to spread my fascination to you. I’m always surprised because so many people don’t even know who she is and she’s such an extraordinary member of the fashion community.

Daphne is an heiress to the Guinness brewery fortune, a socialite and a muse. Throughout her career she has been fashion stylist, designer and perfumer but the reason I love her, isn’t for her career, it’s for her eccentric clothing.

She’s known for both her platinum blonde/black streaked hair and her towering high heels and her collection of couture is incomparable. When her close friend, Isabella Blow, died in 2010, Guinness’ collection grew even larger when she bought Blow’s wardrobe in order to prevent “carnage, as souvenir seekers plundered the incredible body of work Issie had created over her life.”

One of the many, many, many things that I love about Daphne Guinness is the way that she is about to take already amazing items of clothing and make them her own by doing things like wearing jackets backwards or turnings belts into bracelets!

Here are a few of my favourite photos.

One of my favourite things about starting a new year is getting the opportunity to look back on the previous year. Elle Magazine is recapping 2011 through the 50 Best Dressed Women of the Year and showing some of their most memorable looks.

Here are a few of my favourites!

Emma Stone wore Lanvin after the Met Ball. Lanvin is known for the use of bright colours and is one of my favourite design houses. In my opinion, Emma Stone really became one of the best dressed women this year and she looks great in this dress.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Emilio Pucci at the Emmy Awards. Paltrow has been one of my style icons for a long time and I don’t think many people could pull of this midriff baring gown. But of course she can, ‘nuff said.

Daphne Guinness in none other than Alexander McQueen at the Met Ball. I have a small obsession with this woman and was recently able to see her clothing exhibit on display at the FIT Museum. This particular gown is not my favourite, but I do think that Daphne Guinness is one of the best dressed of 2011.

I’m a bit of a nail polish junkie, I tend to have a different nail colour every week. In fact, since I’m on vacation right now, I’ve already changed my nail colour four times this week! I’ve tried all the different brands - Essie, Butter, China Glaze, all the drug store brands and even the Sally Hansen stick-ons but my favourite will always be OPI. I like how thick the polish is and I think they have the best colour selection.
My next nail endeavour will be one of OPI’s matte polishes. Matte is totally the new gloss. The colours I’m wearing:OPI - Honk If You Love OPIOPI - I Vant To Be A-Lone StarSally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips - Glitz BlitzOPI - Quarter of a Cent-CherryOPI - Pink Friday

Sometimes when I’m bored, I like to look up street fashion photos. Some people just have the most amazing sense of style and do things with clothes that I would never even think of! These clothes are not only beautiful to look at, but they give me ideas for my own wardrobe.

Harper’s Bazaar is looking back at their favourite 50 street style photos of 2011 taken by photographer, Mr. Newton. And I’ve included a few of the pictures I really like! To see the rest of the pictures, click the link:

Today is the first day of the new year! Which means school will be starting up again soon, and I always like to start the semester fresh with a new haircut. For a while now I’ve been toying with the idea of ombre hair.

Every time I see it I think, I could do that! And I’m constantly saving ombre pictures to my computer. Here are some of my favourite pictures of the style. And next week if I get it done myself, I post a picture.

New Year, New Hair, New Me!
Best Wishes for 2012

I like to think of myself as a major magazine connoisseur, so I was excited when Vogue Magazine’s 2011 covers popped up on my twitter feed today. I carefully looked them over and my personal favourite is October’s cover with Michelle Williams, whose styled to look like Marilyn Monroe. I love Michelle, I love Marilyn and I love this cover.

If you want to check out all the covers for yourself, here’s the link:

Don’t forget to let me know which one you like the best!

With New Years Eve beginning in t-minus 1 hour, I thought I’d post some of my favourite sparkly things - but no matter what you wear tomorrow night, make sure you shine!
